The building is a fascinating part of Orkney’s history, with the earliest parts dating back to the 1700's and a long history of providing shelter to travellers. It endured through the temperance days in Stromness and was one of the first premises to regain it's liquor licence when the new era of Orkney hopitality began!

The Royal Hotel is a long-established Stromness hostelry, formerly a general trading store with close associations with the pioneers of the Hudsons Bay Company, the hotel is situated in the middle of the town on the main street and operates year round.
There are 10 comfortable ensuite bedrooms at The Royal, including spacious family rooms, doubles, twins and compact singles. All are non-smoking and are on the first and second floors accessed by stairs. We have a mix of townscape views including over the rooftops to the harbour and Holms of Stromness beyond.
